WOSM: Involvement of young members in decision-making

Policy on involvement of young members in decision-making: Provides the text of the policy adopted by the 33rd World Scout Conference in 1993, and explanatory background material. Emphasises the importance of youth involvement in decision-making, both within the youth programme and in management structures of the Movement.

Guidelines for organizing Scout Youth Forums: Designed to help national Scout associations organise Scout youth forums at national and local levels in conjunction with statutory meetings such as general assemblies, as one means of complementing genuine participation of young people in decision-making processes.

*WONDERforums were on-line discussions for leaders, on topics of importance to Scouting, which took place during 2001-2002. Background papers were prepared, a set of questions identified, the questions were discussed on line over a two week period and then a report was prepared on the responses received.

These youth organizations represent almost 100 million young people in the world, and aim to empower young people by giving them appropriate information, education and opportunities to make responsible decisions about their own lives and about the policies, services, information and education provided to young people.

The seven largest international youth organizations are:

seeking further information through the listed websites and organizational
links. The Guide will benefit practitioners and managers involved in
promoting child and youth participation in government, community-based
organizations, child-led organizations, NGOs and UN and donor agencies.
