A Strategy for Scouting: Strategic Priority 5 - Volunteers in ScoutingThis strategic priority aims at redefining the concept of volunteering as applied to Scouting and reviewing policies and practices to help National Scout Organizations (NSOs) recruit and retain a new group of adults in Scouting. PowerPoint Presentation on Volunteers in ScoutingThis presentation includes more detailed information on 'Volunteers in Scouting', an overview of the situation in NSOs in July 2002 and an example of using volunteers in the World Scout Centre in Kandersteg.
Volunteers in Scouting ToolkitFor Scouting to increase its impact on the world
today, all of its component parts, the National
Scout Organisations (NSOs), must grow and
develop. This Toolkit supports Strategic Priority 5: WONDERforums* Background Papers and Reports*WONDERforums were on-line discussions for leaders, on topics of importance to Scouting, which took place during 2001-2002. Background papers were prepared, a set of questions identified, the questions were discussed on line over a two week period and then a report was prepared on the responses received.

WOSM: The World Adult Resources HandbookAusgabe 2005The World Adult Resources Handbook is designed to help National Scout Organizations design and operate a system for the management, training and development of adult leaders in all functions and at all levels. It has been produced by the World Adult Resources Committee. The handbook includes the relevant sections from the earlier International Training Handbook, as well as more recent World Scout Bureau publications on "Adults in Scouting" and "Adult Resource Management". The 2005 edition replaces the 2002 edition. All chapters have been revised; a new section with training modules has been added. This handbook is not intended to be used directly on training courses. All the items should be considered as reference material from which the members of the National Adult Resources Committee can develop their own material to suit their needs. Each Section of the handbook is a complete entity and some of the information therefore may appear in more than one place. This is designed to give cohesion to each section and it avoids excessive cross-referencing.

WOSM/European Scout Region: Volunteers in ScoutingThe Adults we NeedUrsprüngliche Quelle: scout.kaleis.com/index.php?idsousrubrique=79&langue=gb (06.10.2004) The "Adults we Need" is one of the core areas of work for the European Scout Region. In 2002 (which was also the International Year of Volunteers), the 36th World Scout Conference (Thessalonica, Greece) declared volunteering to be one of three key priorities of the World Scout Strategy. Participants at the European Scout Symposium held in March 2003 reiterated that the issue of volunteers was one of the top priorities in Europe. As in many other aspects of life, the concept of volunteering is changing and the Region needs to adapt. Ensuring that we have enough high-quality leaders who are committed to offering their time to the Movement is a major challenge and has been one of the priority areas of work in the Region. Scouting has a great number of very committed adults, but many more are needed. With the support of the Adult Resources Policy, we therefore need to attract, recruit and retain more adults in Scouting. These adults need to be trained to fully identify with the values of Scouting and to share them with young people. A sound adult resources management system will be one of the key success factors for the European associations in the time to come. If associations fail to recruit, train and motivate capable leaders, the entire delivery system of the youth programme will fail and we will be unable to achieve our mission. Along the same lines, we plan to create a pool of motivated and capable leaders hoping that it will form the basis for the support to the future growth of associations. The Regional Scout Plan involves a focus on supporting both professionals and volunteers, by providing:

Adult Resources NetworkIn line with new working methods that have been adopted an |Adult Resources Network| has been established to provide support to associations, and acting together, to implement the objectives relating to the "The Adults we Need". In specific relation to the Adults in Scouting policy, one of the objectives is to create a network of individuals from associations, that will collect and exchange examples of good practice related to this priority.
