Value of Scouting
Hand, heart and mind ...
... allowing girls and boys to discover their talents and abilities, and develop their own self-reliant personality in the process. Furthermore, we offer children and youths a broad range of opportunities to experience and learn team skills, a sense of community, tolerance, critical thinking and considerateness towards nature and the environment. It was in the Scouts that numerous successful personalities acquired those skills which prepared them to assume the responsibilities of years to come.
Learning by doing
The pedagogical concept behind the Boy Scouts and Girl Guides has its origins with the Englishman, Robert Baden-Powell. Based on the principle of "Learning by doing", children and youths of roughly the same age gather in small groups to experience their world together. Over 100 years after the creation of the first scout troops, many of the scouting movement's most typical approaches, such as tent-camping,
hiking and teamwork – frequently referred to nowadays as "Outdoor Pedagogy" – are more relevant and more alive today than ever before.
Youth work at the highest level
All scout leaders perform their duties on a volunteer basis during their own free time. The Boy Scouts and Girl Guides of Austria spends around three years training young adults to become youth leaders through a four-step program. The training focuses on methods of working with children and youths, personality development and the foundations of group dynamics.
